Why Optimize Your Search Snippet?
Your search snippet is essentially a "free ad" on Google. Even if you rank #1, a boring title or a cut-off description can kill your traffic.
- Title Tags: Google typically displays the first 50-60 characters (approx 580px). If it's too long, it gets truncated with an ellipsis (...), hiding your value proposition.
- Meta Descriptions: While not a direct ranking factor, they act as ad copy. A compelling description increases Click-Through Rate (CTR), which IS a ranking signal. Target 150-160 characters.
- Rich Snippets: Adding dates or schema can make your result physically larger on the screen, attracting more eyeballs.
