WildGaussians is a novel approach to handle occlusions and appearance changes with 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), designed for researchers and developers working with in-the-wild scenes. It integrates an appearance modeling module within 3DGS, leveraging robust DINO features to achieve state-of-the-art results. By extending 3DGS with appearance modeling, WildGaussians enables training on images with varying appearance, such as those captured at different times of the day, and demonstrates real-time rendering speed comparable to 3DGS. This approach allows for smooth interpolation between different appearances of the same scene and effectively removes occluders using a DINO-based uncertainty predictor.
